The Catskills provide a more than ample atmosphere for art. The feel of art, the appreciation for the creative and visual, has its own distinct tempo in the Catskills.

Tour any area of the Catskill region and you’re bound to find a gallery or artists colony to visit. Larger galleries and art associations are scattered throughout the area, too.

However, some of the most interesting work (and artists) can be found via word-of-mouth or through small art shows and sales, and even craft shows. This is the artist with his or her work space in the garage or spare room. They have no gallery. They are the creative souls who dedicate as much time as they can spare to their artistic endeavors. The potter and ceramicist, the woodworker and woodcarver, the painter and sculpturer, the jewelry maker and the many others who express their abilities through a craft or art.
